For over twenty years, Phu has been a credentialed General Ed Teacher who has dedicated her life to working with and inspiring young children from ages 4 to 9. She majored in Early Childhood Education and English Literature at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts. Since then, Phu has taught in public, charter, independent, and the Waldorf Schools in California and in Vermont. The Waldorf Education profoundly influenced and transformed her "newfound" teaching in 2014. Its expansive education that uses movement, art, music, nature, storytelling, handwork, natural materials, and a play-based philosophy during early childhood years resonated with her values deeply. Using the Waldorf model, Fiddle Fern Nature Camp integrates many of these expansive activities into its daily rhythm.
With Phu’s background as an Outward Bound alumna, a leader in leading outdoor excursions in college, a yoga teacher, and an accomplished teacher, she led many nature hikes with her elementary school students to support her school's annual auctions. It is natural and very fitting for Phu to have her nature camp! She has incorporated all of her rich experiences to help foster young children to love, appreciate, and have organic experiences in nature that they will continue to carry into their lives.
Phu was a parent at the Waldorf School of the Peninsula and Tru School in the Bay Area.
She currently works at the Lake Champlain Waldorf School in Shelburne, VT.
